Job summary

Transylvania County is seeking a Parks and Recreation Assistant to support planning, coordination, and delivery of community recreation programs and events. You will help keep parks and facilities inviting and well-maintained, while engaging with the public and participants.

The role emphasizes assisting with sports programming, events, and daily center operations, with a focus on safety, customer service, and teamwork in a dynamic county environment.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation work.
• Knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports.
• Knowledge of Microsoft suite.
• Ability to provide working leadership to a group of recreation participants.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist, supervise, and inspect various recreational programs, including sports programming and summer camps.
• Assist recreation staff with the evaluation of programs.
• Assist department and county staff with special events and activities.
• Prepare the recreation center for programs and for rental use.
• Provide departmental information to the public.
