Job summary

The Town of Southern Pines Parks & Recreation Department seeks a proactive Recreation Specialist to support daily administrative operations, program delivery and marketing efforts.

Under general supervision; this role blends administrative coordination of daily tasks with hands-on assistance for all programming areas, helping ensure smooth, efficient service across our Seniors, Special Events, Youth, Athletics, Aquatics and Outdoor sections.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in a field that will support the job description and responsibilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Computer proficiency Excel, Word and Outlook is required.
• Social media and design software proficiency is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service & Public Relations: serve as the first point of contact and counsel the public on programs and policies.
• Marketing & Graphic Design: design flyers, brochures, digital ads, signage, and the program guide using Canva; coordinate photography and testimonials.
• Digital Outreach: create and monitor website updates and social media posts; engage with community members online.
• Program & League Management: assist with planning, development, promotion, and implementation of town programs and events.
• Administrative & Clerical Tasks: proofread correspondence, maintain files, and process work orders.
• Budgeting & Financial Processing: assist with budget recommendations and processing of registrations, payments, invoices, and purchase orders.
• Data Management & Reporting: enter payroll data and compile facility attendance and revenue reports.
• Meeting & Event Support: schedule meetings and provide on-site event support.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: liaise with departments to synchronize resources and promotions.
