Job summary

The Town of Moraga in Contra Costa County is hiring a full-time Maintenance Worker in the Parks Maintenance Division. The role performs entry-level labor including park and open space maintenance, with weekend and some evening shifts for events.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and a California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record; CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification through Town-sponsored training.

The Town of Moraga, incorporated in November of 1974, is nestled on 9.54 square miles of the beautiful hillsides of the East Bay in Contra Costa County. This semi-rural and peaceful community is a small general law city of about 16,000 residents. The Town values its open space, quality residential neighborhoods, semi-rural character and excellent public schools. Home to Saint Mary's College, the Town of Moraga is rich in history.

The Town of Moraga is hiring a full-time maintenance worker in its Parks Maintenance Division. The Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks, including manual labor in parks, landscaped public areas, and open space. Weekend availability is at times required for picnic area prep, general park clean-up, and special events.

  • Most hours will occur during maintenance operation hours: Saturday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
  • Evening hours are required for special events and will be scheduled accordingly.
  • After-hours emergencies in the evening or on weekends may require availability.
  • Methods and techniques of general construction, maintenance, and repair related to parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Basic techniques of carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Construction principles and practices.

Ability to:

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Be flexible to work a varied schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and stationary mechanical equipment safely and effectively
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Organize, prioritize and follow up on work assignments
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, an as part of a team.

Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Generally, this will require:

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.

License or Certificate

  • A valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Valid CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain certification through Town-sponsored training.
