Job summary

The Town of Moraga is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker in the Parks Maintenance Division. The role involves entry-level labor, maintenance and repair tasks in parks, landscaped public areas, and open spaces.

Weekend availability and some evening hours are required for special events and picnic area prep. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid California driver’s license, and CPR/First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain them.

Job description

The Town of Moraga is hiring a full-time maintenance worker in its Parks Maintenance Division.The Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks, including manual labor in parks, landscaped public areas, and open space.Weekend availability is at times required for picnic area prep, general park clean-up, and special events.

  • Most hours will occur during maintenance operation hours: Saturday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
  • Evening hours are required for special events and will be scheduled accordingly.
  • After-hours emergencies in the evening or on weekends may require availability.

Ideal Candidate
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Methods and techniques of general construction, maintenance, and repair related to parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Basic techniques of carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Construction principles and practices.
Ability to:
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Be flexible to work a varied schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and stationary mechanical equipment safely and effectively
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Organize, prioritize and follow up on work assignments
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, an as part of a team.
Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Generally, this will require:

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
License or Certificate
  • A valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Valid CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain certification through Town-sponsored training.
