Job summary

The City of Morgan Hill is seeking multiple Maintenance Assistants to join the Maintenance Team. This part-time, year-round position handles general maintenance and custodial tasks across Parks, Downtown, and City Facilities.

Hours range from 12 to 20 per week with evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays required. Pay ranges from $18.00 to $20.00 per hour, and employment is temporary/non-benefited.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in parks or facility maintenance/custodial work is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform park cleanings including litter control, restroom clean-up, and tree trimming.
  • Perform minor repairs such as painting, plumbing, and wall patching.
  • Operate maintenance equipment like pressure washers, scrubbers, and pool vacuums.
  • Report safety issues to supervisor for follow-up.
  • Test pool chemicals.
  • Conduct custodial tasks: vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and restrooms.
  • Assist with event tasks and setup.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Assistant
Year-round, Part-Time Position (Temporary, Non-Benefited)

The City of Morgan Hill and the Maintenance Team are looking to hire multiple individuals to join our team. The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for general maintenance and custodial tasks at our Parks, Downtown, and City Facilities. This position may rotate work locations and is an excellent opportunity to learn and gain valuable maintenance experience.

Schedule

Position requires availability of 12 - 20 hours per week. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours; including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The schedule will be set with the supervisor.

Salary

The pay range for this position is $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. This is a part-time, year-round (temporary, non-benefited) position.

Selection Process

Applications will be screened and those applicants determined to have the best experience, skills, and qualifications will be invited for an oral interview.

Prior to appointment, applicant must authorize a reference check.

Also prior to appointment, a background check must be completed, which involves fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Perform park cleanings which includes litter control, restroom clean up, tree trimming, and clearing brush
  • Perform minor repairs such as painting, plumbing, wall patching, spot stain removal, and others.
  • Use a variety of equipment including pressure washers, scrubbers, man lift, power tools, pool vacuums, and other maintenance equipment
  • Report safety or major maintenance issues to supervisor for follow-up.
  • Tests pool chemicals
  • Perform custodial tasks including: vacuuming carpets, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning windows, emptying trash, cleaning and supplying restrooms.
  • May assist with event tasks including: moving and arranging tables and chairs, setting up AV equipment, and other items as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education:
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in parks or facility maintenance/custodial work a plus.
Special Requirements:
  • Position requires availability of 12 - 20 hours per week. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of public buildings and facilities; work safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift boxes and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work independently, often with limited/no supervision or direction
  • Must adhere to safety procedures, practices, and policies of each Recreation Facility and the City of Morgan Hill
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff.
  • Read, understand, and apply written instructions.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license in compliance with adopted City of Morgan Hill driving standards.
