Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation seeks a Camp Office Administrator to coordinate administrative functions, assist with camper registration and fee collection, and respond to patron inquiries.   • Experience coordinating administrative functions in a camp or park setting is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license is required to operate a motor vehicle in NY state.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate administrative functions of the camp office.
  • Assist with camper registration and fee collection procedures.
  • Answer phones and respond to patron inquiries.
  • Supervise a small crew of seasonal staff as needed.
  • Support Park Manager with staff training and scheduling; manage deposits and attendance/revenue records; issue permits and coordinate pavilion rentals.
  • Process credit card receipts and enter charges in budgeting/financial systems.
  • Enter seasonal timecards and track hourly projections.
  • During off-season, perform office and maintenance tasks, assist with tree/brush cleanup and snow removal, use hand/power tools, and support trades staff.
  • Operate light to medium vehicles.

Duties Description
  • Coordinating administrative functions of the camp office.
  • Assisting with camper registration and fee collection procedures.
  • Performing routine office tasks including answering phones and responding to low-level patron inquiries.
  • Supervising a small crew of seasonal staff, as needed.
  • Assisting the Park Manager with the training and scheduling of campground staff; preparing bank deposits; entering daily attendance and revenue figures; issuing permits for special use, commercial activities, firewood and hunting; and coordinating pavilion rental operations.
  • Processing credit card receipts and entering charges into the Budgeting Expenditure Tracking System and Statewide Financial System programs.
  • Entering seasonal timecards and tracking hourly projections.
  • During the off season, the incumbent will perform various office and maintenance tasks:
  • Assist with tree and brush clean-up.
  • Shovel and plow snow.
  • Utilize hand and power tools.
  • Assist higher-level staff with basic trades projects.
  • Operate light and medium-duty vehicles.

No Minimum Qualifications Per Civil Service.

Additional Comments
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge of the internet and Microsoft 365 Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to sit, stand, bend, and squat for various periods of time.
  • Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays especially during the peak operating season between April and October.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in accounting and revenue tracking
