Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is seeking a full-time seasonal position to assist professional staff with planning, design, and construction of park and historic site improvements, including trails, accessible pathways, planting, stormwater management, and signage.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows operating a motor vehicle in New York State.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Revit.
• Strong communication, organizational and critical thinking skills; ability to work independently or collaboratively and participate in fieldwork.
• Experience or coursework in landscape architecture, site planning, or construction documentation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, design, and construction of park and historic site improvements; trails, pathways, planting, stormwater management, signage.
• Prepare drawings, details, specs, and cost estimates using AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite as applicable.
• Conduct field measurements and inventories to support base maps and design development.
• Prepare presentation materials and interpretive signage following agency design standards.
• Coordinate with design staff, project managers, contractors, and park operations; track submittals and draft responses.

This is a full-time, seasonal position that will assist professional staff with planning, design, and construction of park and historic site improvements, including trails, accessible pathways, planting, stormwater management, and signage. The primary work this position will involve:

Planning And Design Support

• Assist with preparing drawings, details, specifications, and cost estimates using AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite, as applicable
• Assist in conducting field measurements and site inventories to support base maps and design development.
• Assist in researching native plants and construction materials, including cost, availability, and suitability;
• Assist with planting plants and maintenance recommendations
• Assist in preparing presentation materials and interpretive signage following agency design standards

Project Coordination And Construction Support

• Assist with reviewing consultant documents, tracking submittals, and drafting responses to contractor questions
• Assist in documenting construction progress and site conditions, including inspections and reports supporting SWPPP compliance
• Assist in maintaining project records and coordinating with design staff, project managers, contractors, and park operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, graduate degree, or coursework in landscape architecture or a closely related field
• Experience or academic training in site planning, planting design, and construction documentation
• Knowledge of native plants, sustainable landscapes, and construction materials
