Job summary

City of Raleigh is seeking an entry-level Parking Services Technician to perform daily maintenance and repair of on-street pay stations in the downtown area. Responsibilities include cleaning cabinets, graffiti removal, and responding to customer concerns while maintaining repair history records.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides daily monitoring, testing, preventative maintenance, and repair of all on-street pay stations.
• Removes pay stations during long construction; reinstalls when projects are complete.
• Provides regular cleaning of the cabinets; removes graffiti immediately when discovered; responds to trouble alerts.
• Provides guidance/instruction to customers in the proper procedures for operating the pay stations.
• Maintains records for inventory items, repair history, communication failures, etc.
• Responds to reports of machine malfunctions.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Job description

This full-time position is the first level in a two-level Parking Services “meters section” devoted to providing customer service and pay station upkeep. This position will provide daily preventative maintenance and repair of all on-street multi-space pay stations (meters) deployed in the downtown area. Work may include responding to customer concerns, running reports, regular cleaning of meter cabinets, graffiti removal, pay station removals and reinstallations, and maintain records for repair history. Incumbents will be responsible for weekly coin collection.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; Less than 1 experience in maintenance and repair of small equipment, parking meters, or related work

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Work Environment and Physical Effort:

Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic) and in or around vehicles. Work is occasionally performed in office or similar environment, warehouse or shop environment.

Work Exposures:

There is frequent exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees) and loud noises (85+ decibels average over 8-hour working day such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction). Employees may occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate, communicable diseases and fumes or airborne particles.
