Job summary

Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking a Park Ranger Maintenance to supervise park maintenance operations and ensure facilities and grounds are safe and up to standards. The role covers multiple trades, from carpentry and electrical work to landscaping and vehicle maintenance, with supervision of wage staff and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will lead safety-focused maintenance programs, provide guest information, and manage maintenance projects to protect park resources

Qualifications

• Experience in leading, directing, and training staff and volunteers.
• Experience in evaluating work performed by others.
• Ability to use a variety of tools for facilities and grounds maintenance, including mowing, landscaping, tree work, and trail maintenance.
• Skills in basic construction and maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and masonry.
• Experience in vehicle maintenance, including small/large engine repair and hydraulic systems repair.
• Proficient verbal and written communication for staff, guests, and preparing correspondence/reports.
• Experience using computers and software applications.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance operations to ensure facilities and grounds are safe and meet current standards.
• Maintain, improve, and protect park facilities, grounds, systems, resources, vehicles, and equipment by performing and supervising maintenance projects.
• Use skills in a variety of trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, small engine repair, vehicle and equipment repairs, and troubleshooting systems.
• Supervise and coach wage employees, volunteers, and alternative labor in the successful performance of these operations.
• Provide user safety and satisfaction by providing clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities and grounds; providing good information to guests; and assisting with guest services.
