Job summary

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is hiring for the New River Trail State Park Maintenance Ranger Lead position. This skilled role supports park operations with groundskeeping, mowing, weed eating, trash pickup, and basic equipment upkeep, under supervision.

Ideal candidates can lift 50 pounds, operate landscaping tools, drive maintenance vehicles, and perform minor repairs. Weekend/holiday availability is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and work outdoors.
• Ability to drive maintenance vehicles with a valid license.
• Experience operating landscaping equipment and basic hand/power tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise janitorial duties, including cleaning park buildings.
• Perform and supervise facility and grounds maintenance (mowing, weed eating, trash removal).
• Operate equipment such as tractors.
• Assist with facility inventory and ordering.
• Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
• Perform skilled facility/equipment repairs (small engine, plumbing, carpentry) as needed.
