Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago is seeking a part-time Parish Accountant to support the Pastor’s and Operations Director’s initiatives, focusing on financial stewardship and HR resources in line with Archdiocesan policies. You will assist with bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting across multiple parishes.

Responsibilities include bank reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll postings, and adherence to internal controls.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum two years in an accounting or finance role within a parish or business entity.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of accounting principles.

Responsibilities

Performs all bookkeeping functions including but not limited to: reconciles bank accounts, processes accounts payable and staff reimbursements, records deposits, posts wire transfers, ACH and credit card transactions.
Gather procurement card expense reports and receipts and ensure charges are paid on time.
Post payroll journal entries and prepare financial reports as requested; assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries.
Ensure internal controls are in place and followed according to Archdiocesan policies.
Assist with preparing materials for Finance Council meetings and with parish, state, and local tax payments; assist with bi-weekly payroll processing.
