Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s is seeking a part-time Paramedic to perform patient transport from the Burnet Emergency Department. The role requires a valid paramedic certification (OH/KY) and NREMT, with current ACLS/PALS and trauma credentials. A driver’s license with a clean record is essential.

You will assess needs, provide care during transport, report to receiving clinicians, and ensure safety, confidentiality, and effective communication within the health care team.

Qualifications

  • Ohio Paramedic Certification and Kentucky Paramedic certification within 6 months of hire.
  • NREMT certification within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider within 6 months of hire.
  • Trauma certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License with less than 5 points.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Transport – Perform skills as established by CCHMC Transport Team policy, law and guidelines; operate Emergency Vehicles within state laws.
  • Assess department needs and respond within Paramedic scope of practice per EMS Board rules.
  • Maintain current driver's license and EMS certifications; document incidents and fuel records.
  • Provide patient care during transport and report to receiving clinical staff.
  • Ensure age-appropriate and culturally inclusive patient care.
  • Foster safety and compliance in the moving vehicle and unit equipment.
  • Promote open, timely communication with health care team, patients, and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, families and employees; discuss concerns with supervisor.

Job description

Location: Burnet Campus, Department: Burnet Emergency Department, Shift: Day, Schedule: Part time, Weekly Hours: 24, FTE: 0.6, Employee Status: Regular. Expected Starting Pay Range: $23.90 - $29.88.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Transport – Perform skills as established by CCHMC Transport Team policy and procedure and guideline and the State of Ohio Board of EMS. Accept and comply with laws, regulations, rules, policies, and procedures. Operate Emergency Vehicles within applicable laws.
  • Independently assess department needs and respond within Paramedic scope of practice according to the state EMS Board Division of EMS/Ohio Department of Public Safety. The complete scope of practice can be found in Ohio Revised Code Sections 4765.39 (EMT-P) and further defined in Ohio Administrative Code Rules, 4765-17-03 (Paramedic).
  • Maintain current driver's license and good driving records; points not to exceed 5. Maintain current national registry, Ohio and Kentucky EMS Paramedic certification. Maintain clear record of incidents in CCHMC vehicle. Turn in all fuel slips and required documentation per standard operating procedure. Demonstrate compliance with physical requirements of lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 400 lbs.
  • Patient Care – Provide appropriate patient care during transport and give full report to clinical personnel at receiving facility. Integrate age specific and culturally inclusive concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's age and developmental functioning.
  • Safety – Foster environment that prevents accident, illness and injury and strives for continuous improvement. Assure crew, family, and patients adhere to safety requirements while in a moving vehicle. Ensure the work environment is organized, safe, accessible, effective, and efficient for patients, families, and coworkers. Report malfunctioning equipment and other environmental hazards immediately. Anticipate change in needs based on volume. Ensure proper working conditions of patient care and unit equipment.
  • Communication – Promote open and timely communication with all members of the health care team, patients, family members and visitors. Report to nursing staff any change in observable response to patients condition. Respond promptly to requests by patients, families and employees. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussion.
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of patient, families and employees.
  • Discuss concerns of work situation with director or designee.
  • Confidentiality – Act in manner that maintains confidentiality, protects and safeguards patient/family personal medical and financial information at all times during collection, use and storage. Access only information and records necessary to perform the responsibilities of your position.
