Job summary

Evans & Dixon LLC in Chicago seeks an experienced Paralegal to support attorneys from case inception to closure. You will schedule depositions, manage medical records, and coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and medical experts in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of workers' compensation or personal injury defense experience, excellent writing and editing abilities, and proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Evans & Dixon is currently seeking to add an experienced Paralegal to our expanding & fast paced Chicago, IL office. As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for handling and maintaining cases from start to finish. You will provide support to the attorneys, organize and maintain case files, manage caseload requirements, and monitor case filing, timelines, and billing. Your responsibilities will include handling all aspects of the case including scheduling depositions, medical exams, ordering and summarizing medical records, and more! Successful candidates will have a durable work ethic, superior ability to multitask, and enjoy working in a fast pace and intellectually stimulating setting.

What you’ll do:

As a Paralegal, you will assist your team of attorneys and legal support staff by:

  • Scheduling: You will manage and maintain your attorney's calendar by scheduling depositions and medical examinations.
  • Medical Records: You will order, obtain, and then summarize medical records for active files.
  • Communication: You will have frequent contact with clients, opposing counsel, and medical specialists.
  • Record Keeping: File and organize exhibitions, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel, and maintain all records for each case.
  • Administrative Support: Support multiple attorneys by obtaining affidavits and other formal legal documents, reviewing trial transcriptions, and monitoring the attorney's deadlines and calendars.
What we’re looking for:
  • A minimum of two years of applicable experience in worker's compensation defense/personal injury defense
  • Ability to work in-office on a full-time basis
  • Fantastic writing, typing, and editing skills
  • Must be comfortable utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Have the ability to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents
  • Must be very familiar with medical terminology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be well organized, detail-orientated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities
  • Ability to communicate with a multitude of different people, such as clients, opposing counsel, medical experts, etc.
Education and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two plus years of applicable legal experience required
  • Experience in worker's compensation defense & personal injury
