Job summary

Bristol Public Schools is seeking a City Wide Paraeducator for Northeast Middle School (NEMS) Learning Center. The role supports special education and regular students under supervision of a special education teacher.

Responsibilities include assisting instruction, maintaining discipline, escorting students, and supporting IEP implementation, with duties across classrooms, lunch, and recess in a typical school environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
• Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
• Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist teacher with instructional activities.
• Escort students from room to room.
• Toileting students is sometimes required.
• Involves work with both special education and regular students.
• Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
• Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
• Assist students with classroom assignments.
• Copy materials for instructional purposes.
• Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
• Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
