Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; two years of college credit or an associate's degree or successful completion of paraprofessional assessment.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; write simple correspondence.
• Math skills: add/subtract two-digit numbers; multiply/divide with tens/hundreds; use money/weight/volume/distance units.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist teacher with instructional activities.
• Escort students between rooms.
• Toileting students is required.
• Involves work with both special education and regular students.
• Assist in implementing IEPs.
• Supervise students at recess and lunch.
• Assist with classroom assignments.
• Copy materials for instructional purposes.
• Prepare paperwork and filing for the teacher.
• Alert teachers to problems observed.
