Job summary

Cal Poly Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA, is seeking a Basic Needs Student Assistant (Solano Campus). This part‑time role is up to 20 hours per week and pays $17.00 per hour under the CSUEU, Unit 15 Student Assistants.

The Student Assistant will help with Pantry operations, including donation processing, client interactions, and event support, focusing on food distribution, education, and campus collaboration to meet students' basic needs.

Qualifications

• Typing and keyboard skills; ability to use standard office equipment.
• Ability to create artistic flyers for events using Canva, Photoshop, etc.
• Ability to use word processing, Excel, and other Office products.
• Ability to respond to phone and in-person inquiries or route calls as appropriate.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Responsibilities

• Distribute food to Pantry clients.
• Interact with and assist Pantry clients.
• Set-up & manage Pop-up Events to distribute: Fresh Fruits & Veggies on a weekly basis.
• Receive food donations and inventory Pantry supplies and food.
• Prepare and distribute additional resources to Pantry clients.
• Prepare weekly summaries of Pantry activities and semester reports of Pantry attendance.
• Support creation of marketing materials such as flyers, newsletter updates, and social media.
• Collaborate with on- and off-campus organizations to support the Pantry.
• Implement projects for the continued evolution and improvement of the Pantry.
• Work directly with students to guide them through the application process for CalFresh Benefits Program.
• Plan and execute at least two-three programs per semester that provide service/outreach or learning opportunities.
