Job summary

Caltech is seeking a motivated biochemist and structural biologist to join the Bjorkman Lab as a Research Scientist in Pasadena, CA. The role focuses on designing pan-coronavirus immunogens and using structural biology to understand immune responses, with hands-on work in protein expression, purification, and structural analyses.

Responsibilities include planning experiments with the PI, evaluating immune responses in animal models, and presenting findings at seminars.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
• 5+ years post-doctoral and/or biotech experience in protein biochemistry and characterization.
• 5+ years in structural biology (cryo-EM and/or X-ray).
• 5+ years in vaccine design or evaluation in animal models.
• Ability to develop solutions to complex problems with ingenuity and analysis.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Characterize designed immunogens structurally and functionally, including expression and purification, binding studies, and structural studies.
• Perform animal immunization experiments to evaluate immunogens.
• Evaluate immune responses for binding, neutralization, and specificity.
• Study structural basis of immune recognition of antigens; assess antibody binding to immunogens and analyze structures.
• Collaborate with PI and lab members on designing experiments, analyzing results, and writing papers.
• Present research at seminars and conferences; participate in lab discussions and meetings.
