Job summary

This entry level position is for an enrollee in the UNC Health Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP). The medical assistant apprentice is an on-the-job training program designed to teach routine administrative and clinical skills in the outpatient clinic setting.

The apprentice will work under supervision, receive structured mentorship, and be prepared to take the certification exam upon completion of the program.

Qualifications

• No prior healthcare experience required.
• Paid, full-time apprenticeship with online and clinical training.
• Certification exam preparation and career placement support.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs and data collection.
• Collects patient data including medical history, allergies, and current meds.
• Assists the provider during treatments; collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Administers medications under designated supervision.
• Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams as directed.
• Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
• Provides after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, and scheduling; answers clinic calls.
