Job summary

UNC Health is offering an entry-level Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) in the Rheumatology Clinic at Eastowne in Chapel Hill, NC. This full-time, 12-month program combines up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare participants for a Certified Medical Assistant role.

Apprentices will progress through three learning phases while working in an outpatient clinic setting.

Qualifications

• No prior healthcare experience required.
• BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to perform administrative and basic clinical tasks in outpatient clinic.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with computers to document information.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs and data collection.
• Collects patient data, medical history, medication list, and allergies.
• Assists providers during treatments and procedures; performs phlebotomy as directed.
• Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams under supervision.
• Maintains exam/treatment rooms and prepares supplies.
• Provides patient with after-visit and self-care instructions.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, and scheduling.
