UNC Health is offering a full-time, 12-month Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) designed to train entry-level candidates in outpatient clinic skills, with up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours of online coursework. Apprentices progress through Administrative and Clinical phases, preparing for the Certified Medical Assistant exam.

Qualifications

• No prior healthcare experience required.
• Commitment to completing the 12-month program and obtaining certification.
• Intent to work at UNC Health as a Certified Medical Assistant for at least two years after completion.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake, including vitals, height, weight, and data collection.
• Collects patient data, reviews medications, allergies, and pharmacy preferences.
• Assists providers during treatments and procedures; may collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Performs tests (e.g., EKG) and assists with routine health screenings.
• Prepares and maintains exam rooms and supplies; sterilizes instruments.
• Provides after-visit, follow-up, or self-care instructions as directed.
• Assists with registration, check-in/out, scheduling, and handling of clinic communications.
