Job summary

UNC Health invites applicants to join the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP), a paid, full-time, 12-month training that combines up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job learning with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare for Certified Medical Assistant certification. Apprentices progress through Administrative I, Basic Clinical II, and Intermediate Clinical III in an outpatient clinic setting.

Upon completion, you may take the NHA CMA exam and apply for a permanent MA I, Certified

Qualifications

• Paid, full-time apprenticeship with online and clinical training.
• No prior healthcare experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
• Demonstrated effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs and data collection.
• Collects patient and family data, meds, allergies and pharmacy.
• Assists provider during treatments and procedures; phlebotomy.
• Obtains tests such as EKG and eye exams under supervision.
• Maintains exam/treatment rooms and sterilizes instruments.
• Provides post-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Assists with registration, check-in/out, scheduling and tests.
