Job summary

UNC Health is offering an entry-level Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) at UNC Internal Medicine in Weaver Crossing. This paid, full-time 12-month program blends up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare you for the Certified Medical Assistant role in an outpatient clinic setting.

Apprentices progress through Administrative, Basic Clinical, and Intermediate Clinical phases, culminating in eligibility to take the NHA Medical Assistant

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Proficiency using a computer to document information into the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake including vital signs and data collection.
• Reviews medical history, current medications, allergies, and pharmacy.
• Assists providers during procedures and performs phlebotomy as directed.
• Performs tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under supervision.
• Maintains exam/treatment rooms and ensures supplies and equipment are ready.
• Provides patient with post-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, and scheduling.
