Job summary

UNC Health is seeking an entry-level Medical Assistant Apprentice for the MAAP program in the Rheumatology Clinic at Eastowne. The role combines up to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare you for certification as a Medical Assistant.

The apprenticeship is full-time for 12 months, with opportunities to advance to a permanent Medical Assistant I, Certified position upon successful completion and certification.

Qualifications

• No healthcare experience required beyond meeting other requirements.
• BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
• Must have access to a computer and internet for online coursework.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs, height, weight, and data collection.
• Collects patient data and reviews medical history, medications, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
• Assists provider during treatments and procedures; collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Performs tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) as directed and reviews records for routine screenings.
• Ensures exam rooms have supplies, equipment, and educational materials; cleans and maintains rooms.
• Provides after-visit or self-care instructions as directed.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling, and hotline inquiries.
