Job summary

DLR Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Washington, DC. This paid, full-time internship runs May 18 through August 6, 2027, as part of the Emerging Professional Experience (EPX) program.

You will contribute to mechanical design for buildings, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and gain hands-on experience across the design process from concept through construction administration.

Qualifications

• Completed at least one year in ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering program.
• Experience or interest in BIM workflow (e.g., Autodesk Revit MEP).

Responsibilities

• Work with a licensed engineer designing mechanical systems for buildings.
• Attend design team meetings and observe coordination among multidisciplinary teams.
• Assist with design and development of construction documents using Revit.
• Visit active construction sites when possible.
• Develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs from concept to completion.
