Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a climbing Arborist Trainee for Summer 2027 in SE Denver, CO. This internship offers field experience across Tree Care, Plant Health Care, Sales and Client Services with paid onboarding and on-site training.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on learning in a dynamic outdoor setting. Starting Summer 2027, students will gain practical climbing experience, pruning, and equipment operation while working on real projects.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights preferred.
• Must complete Davey Tree orientation program upon hire.
• Must complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving courses upon hire.
• Pesticide licenses/certificates preferred where required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and get paid to do it.
• Be part of a tree crew and learn new skills.
• Perform tree pruning and removal safely and skillfully for clients.
• Identify trees and apply pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in the canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment, including chainsaws and chippers.
