Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a veterinary technician to support the Anesthesia Service and provide high‑quality patient care in a fast‑paced academic clinical environment. You will mentor students and staff, maintain medical records, and participate in teaching and clinical research activities.

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:30 pm, with emphasis on collaboration across multiple service areas and a strong commitment to patient safety and client communication.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program or equivalent education.
• Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, or equivalent recognized in Minnesota) in good standing, or eligible within 12 months of hire.
• Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Professional conduct, reliability, and ethics; knowledge of veterinary terminology and clinical practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced veterinary nursing procedures and technical skills per service standards.
• Independently assess patient status and communicate concerns to clinicians.
• Assist with complex diagnostic, medical, surgical, and emergency procedures.
• Support anesthesia, sedation, and recovery procedures with monitoring and documentation.
• Maintain accurate patient care documentation and medical records.
• Support inventory management, equipment readiness, and hospital operations.
• Mentor and support veterinary technicians, assistants, and students.
• Communicate with clients and care teams to ensure continuity of care.
