Job Description

The Packer is responsible for operating winders, completing quality checks, packaging and palletizing finished product, handling scrap, and assisting in scrap reduction while maintaining quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Must enter one near miss and one observation per month.
  • Must review production orders.
  • Must determine correct packing materials are available at the line.
  • Removes finished product from winders and places it on scales to verify weight.
  • Weighs and accurately records all product on work order or continuation sheets.
  • Places items in designated cartons as per production order specifications.
  • Packages product per work order manufacturing notes and any other order instructions, checking accuracy of labels and adherence to product guidelines.
  • Places identification labels on product or skids per work order instructions.
  • Maintains a clean work area free of scrap plastic, cardboard, and other debris.
  • Ensures quality follows work order specifications.
  • Assists in giving breaks to peers.
  • Cuts scrap and separates it properly.
  • Must be able to work all equipment in stretch and minimum 5 equipment in custom.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must know how to read and use a tape measure and weigh scale.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (if over 50 lbs., a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift is required).
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours.
  • Must be able to work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate the body at all times.
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must exert 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 35 pounds of force frequently; if over 50 lbs., a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift is required.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours.
  • Must be able to work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate the body at all times.
  • Reaches with hands and arms for up to 100% of the workday.
  • Talks to communicate with others.
  • Hears to communicate with others and respond to manufacturing and PIT equipment sounds.
  • Uses arms to grasp, handle, and type.
  • Walks to operate production machines and to package and palletize finished product.
Work Environment

This position requires the employee to work outdoors 1/3 of the time or less, near moving mechanical parts over 2/3 of the time, high or precarious places 1/3 of the time or less, near electrical components 1/3 of the time or less, near vibrating equipment and tools 1/3 of the time or less, fumes from equipment or airborne particles 1/3 of the time or less, toxic or caustic chemicals 1/3 of the time or less, extreme heat (non‑weather) 1/3 of the time or less, extreme cold (non‑weather) none, wet or humid conditions (non‑weather) 1/3 of the time or less, and loud environments (equipment operation) 1/3 of the time or less.

Language Skills

Must be able to read and write in English.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Salary

Starting pay is $18.65 per hour, varying with experience up to $21.50 per hour.
