Job summary

Amcor Rigid Packaging in Itasca, IL seeks an operator to safely run packaging lines and support quality control. The role covers palletizers, wrapping, strapping, and packing while maintaining efficiency and meeting specifications.

The position requires a high school diploma, 1–3 years in manufacturing, and the ability to work a 12-hour night shift. Forklift experience is preferred, with strong attention to detail and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate palletizers, wrapping machines, strappers, box machines, tumble packing, and hand packing.
  • Perform quality tests and record data; stop production for quality issues when needed.
  • Adjust machines to meet customer specifications and maintain product quality.
  • Maintain production records and communicate schedule changes to the team.
  • Participate in GMP and safety trainings to improve plant operations.
  • Keep assigned areas clean and compliant with GMP standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Position Overview

Responsible for the safe, quality, and proficient operation and understanding of machinery, equipment, and processes in the Production Department, including palletizers, wrapping machines, strappers, box machines, tumble packing, and hand packing. Operation of molding equipment involves performing short‑cycle, repetitive, and control functions in set patterns to attain high‑quality production output.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all established safety and quality policies and procedures and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and as trained during the various safety‑related training programs. Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to co‑workers and managers/supervisors. Properly use all personal protective equipment.
  • Know and practice safe and proper start‑up and shutdown procedures for each machine.
  • Perform quality assurance tests using appropriate measuring devices and basic math skills, enter resultant data into the computer system, and have authority to stop production due to quality issues.
  • Make necessary machine adjustments to maintain consistent machine operation and product quality to meet customer specifications (e.g., bottle height, volumetric, top‑load, visual defects, section weights, finish dimensions).
  • Maintain standard production objectives through proper machine operation and recording production accurately.
  • Communicate changes in the production schedule to operators and palletizers, e.g., countdown and color changes.
  • Actively participate in Quality training and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) meetings to assist in continuous improvement of plant operations.
  • Maintain housekeeping of all assigned areas, applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor and/or Production management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some post‑secondary education preferred (technical or vocational).
  • 1 to 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work a 12‑hour night shift.
  • Forklift driver experience preferred.
  • Ability to recognize and understand numbers, values, and enter this information into an online database accurately. Strong mathematical ability is essential.
  • Ability to visually distinguish fine variations in color and other visual defects.
  • Proficient hand/eye coordination to operate equipment.
  • Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on the situation at hand.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work all shifts and required overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move, lift, push, pull, stand on a continual basis.
  • Must frequently squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., to carry out the essential functions of the position.
  • Must also be able to climb stairs/ladders up to 15 feet high.
  • This is a physically demanding job as outlined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Shift Availability

12‑hour rotating shift: 6:55 PM to 7:00 AM.

Pay

Starting rate: $20.70 per hour, plus night shift differential.
