Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Technical Services Specialist/Representative to provide on-site technical support at customer locations in Oakdale, CA. You will act as a packaging SME, conduct investigations, and train customers on cans, ends, and double seam evaluation.

The role requires 5+ years of experience in operations, quality, R&D, or labs, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel 50–75%. A BS in a physical science or engineering field is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in operations, quality, R&D, or lab roles.
• Willingness to travel 50–75% to customer or internal sites.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; data analysis capability.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Follows all safety protocols and maintains a safe working environment.
• Travels to customer locations to provide on-site support.
• Serves as a packaging SME for customers in the assigned territory.
• Responds to Technical/Regulatory requests for certifications.
• Starts customer complaint investigations with samples and traceability data.
• Quarantines suspect product with minimal disruptions.
• Provides training on food cans and ends and double seam evaluation.
• Prepares specification documents and customer communications.
• Statistical analysis of manufacturing data.
• Supports plant operations and technical projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
