Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in Oakdale, California is seeking a Technical Services Specialist/Representative to provide on-site technical support, troubleshoot, and lead investigations at customer locations. You will gain expertise in 2‑piece and 3‑piece steel can and end manufacturing and act as a packaging SME in your territory.

Qualifications

• Five or more years' work experience in operations, quality, R&D, or laboratory in food/beverage or packaging manufacturing.
• BS in a physical science or engineering field; related degrees or equivalent work experience accepted.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
• Data analysis and statistical analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Follows all safety protocols and maintains a safe working environment.
• Travels to customer locations regularly to provide on-site support.
• Serves as a packaging SME for customers in the territory.
• Responds to Technical/Regulatory requests with certifications of cans and ends.
• Starts customer complaint investigations with samples and traceability information.
• Quarantines suspect product with minimal disruption to operations.
• Leads or assists in sorting or containment activities at customer sites.
• Provides training to customers on food cans, ends, and double seam evaluation.
• Prepares specification documents and other customer communications.
• Performs statistical analysis of manufacturing data.
• Communicates technical details clearly to customers.
• Supports plant operations and technical projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
