Job summary

Covenant House New York is hiring a Rights of Passage Resident Advisor to support up to 20 youths aged 16-21 in a Bronx site. The RA provides supportive services, helps with daily routines, meal preparation, and maintains a safe living environment.

The role requires flexibility, strong communication, and adherence to CHNY policies. Training and implementation of evidence-based models are part of the job, with a focus on trauma-informed care and housing stability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; one year of relevant work experience may substitute.
• Experience working with at-risk youth is strongly preferred.
• Driver's license preferred and comfort with driving a 7-passenger van.
• Interest in working with youth who have experienced homelessness.
• Excellent verbal, written, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Directly engages, supervises, and supports youth residing at the ROP site.
• Ensures the site and youths' rooms are clean and safe.
• Welcomes youth and orients them to site expectations and CHNY policies.
• Assists youth with daily preparation, ensuring they are awake, fed, and on schedule.
• Monitors program and client activities to ensure safety.
• Cooks or assists in cooking meals and manages post-meal cleanup.
• Maintains site cleanliness and coordinates with facilities staff.
• Maintains records in the ETO system and documentation in a timely manner.
• Escorts youth to appointments and services as needed.
• De-escalates crises and follows agency protocol for emergencies.
