Job summary

Family Service of Rhode Island is seeking a dedicated residential youth worker to supervise and support adolescents aged 13 to 17 in a school and residential setting.

The role requires a trauma-informed approach, implementing Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) and other evidence-based models, to help each student make decisions about daily life, conduct, and discipline within agency policies and contractual requirements with the Department of Children, Youth and Families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy preferred or significant therapeutic recreation experience in a residential setting required.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
• Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset.
• Capabilities to implement appropriate child management techniques, which may include use of passive physical restraint.
• Reliable transportation with valid license, insurance, and a vehicle with at least three seats.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, support, and supervision to adolescents ages 13–17 in school and residential settings.
• Implement trauma-informed approaches, including Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) and other evidence-based models.
• Assist students in making decisions about daily life, conduct, and discipline within agency policies and contractual requirements.
• Promote safety, well-being, self-expression, learning, and positive decision making.
