Job summary

The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia is seeking an Overnight Steward to perform deep cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen and non-food areas. You will assist cooks and maintain high cleanliness standards in a luxury dining environment.

Responsibilities include ovens, burners, brass polishing, floor care, and coordinating with culinary managers. Availability for longer hours and weekends is expected; bilingual ability is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Deep cleaning and sanitation of kitchen.

• Scrubbing of burners and grill.
• Detailed polishing of brass areas and copper equipment weekly.
• Buffing of countertops as directed.
• Power washing and deep scrubbing of floor areas.
• Scrubbing and cleaning of cubbies, dark corners, walls, and other spaces as directed.
• Dusting lights and sconces.
• Assisting with polishing of hood in absence of maintenance tech.
• Consolidation and organization of non-food storage spaces.
• Assisting cooks with break down and stewards with pot sink at beginning of shift.
• Additional organization and deep cleaning tasks as directed by culinary managers.
• Other duties, as assigned.

The Overnight Steward worksthrough the night on deep kitchen cleaning, polishing, sanitation, and organization. This position is responsible for deep cleaning of the ovens, detailing and polishing of the brass and range, power-washing of the floor, cleaning, consolidating, and organizing non-food areas. The overnight porter will assist with breakdown of the kitchen alongside the cooks. Other responsibilities include cleaning and scrubbing of drawers, gaskets, windows, and other areas as designated by the culinary managers. In the absence of the culinary managers, the overnight porter reports to the overnight maintenance technician and the bakers with any concerns and to review completed work.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work weekends.
• A reliable mode of transportation to and from work.

• Experience in restaurant work and/or sanitation.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours consistently).
• Requires exposure to hot pans, sharp knives, open flames, and temperatures ranging from hot to cold.
• Availability and understanding that the position often requires hours more than a standard workweek (40-50 hours).
