Job summary

The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia is seeking a dedicated Steward to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in back-of-house areas, including dish rooms and dining prep spaces. This role requires nights and weekend availability, physical stamina to lift 50 lbs, and a team-oriented mindset.

• Deep cleaning and organization projects as needed or delegated by management.
• Proper scrubbing and storing of all pots and pans.
• Upkeep and cleaning of the employee dining area.
• Daily sweeping and mopping of kitchen floors, before and after service.
• Cleaning of floor drains and catches.
• Assisting with polishing of service ware as needed.
• Organization of storage areas for non-food items and cleaning supplies.
• Communicate when cleaning supplies run low.
• Pressure washing of floors as directed.
• Proper cleaning and maintenance of dish machine.
• Stocking and maintaining hand soap and hand towels.
• Assisting with other cleaning and maintenance projects as prescribed by culinary management.
• Polishing of copper service ware as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Steward is responsible for general sanitation and cleaning of all back of house areas. The stewarding position upholds the Virginia Department of Health cleanliness and sanitation standards. Maintenance of the dish machine and care of other sanitation tools are essential to this role. Maintaining the cleanliness of the dish machine area, basin sinks, and other culinary areas is required.

Essential Functions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours consistently).
• Requires exposure to hot pans, sharp knives, open flames, and temperatures ranging from hot to cold.
• Availability and understanding that the position often requires hours in excess of a standard workweek (40-50 hours).
