Job summary

A New Leaf in Glendale, AZ seeks an Overnight Shelter Advocate to support clients in crisis and shelter operations. You will provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals, while coordinating with community resources to ensure client safety and well-being.

The role requires trauma-informed practice, ability to document accurately, and alignment with our core values. A valid driver’s license and bilingual Spanish are preferred; fingerprint clearance is required for compliance.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with domestic violence, homelessness, or economically disadvantaged populations is preferred.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and community resources is required.
• Ability to drive a passenger van is preferred.
• Verbally bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Model appropriate behavior for callers and shelter clients using trauma-informed principles.
• Answer crisis calls and document calls per procedure.
• Provide crisis intervention, DV information, resources, and referrals.
• Coordinate with hotels, transportation, and internal programs for client placement.
• Conduct screenings, lethality assessments, and needs assessments as per procedure.
• Assist with intake/exit paperwork and orientation for new clients.
• Maintain client files and documentation in a timely, accurate manner.
• Assist with admission and discharge in line with program policies.
• Access community resources to coordinate services for clients.
• Keep program areas clean and organized; report repairs as needed.
• Stock supplies and assist with inventory of clothes, hygiene items, food, and office supplies.
• Assist with meal preparation, serving, and cleanup; lift up to 30 lbs.
• Monitor property security with hourly checks; stay awake during overnight shift.
• Review communications to stay updated on milieu and client needs.
