Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Residential Supervisor for the Overnight Shift (11 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.) in downtown San Diego.

You will supervise residents, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe living environment within the Safe STAY Wellness Center, a LGBTQ-affirming housing program for youth 18–24. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of relevant experience, trauma-informed practice, and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social science, psychology or related field.
• 1 year of work with young adults, children, or families in a social service setting OR minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
• Previous experience in a residential setting with direct care and supervision preferred.
• Understanding and application of trauma-informed care principles in daily interactions.
• Basic computer knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Work shifts with sustained alertness during the entire duration.
• Respond to emergencies, including medical or behavioral crises, and initiate appropriate protocols.
• Provide direct supervision to residents during shifts; address behavioral issues and de-escalate crises.
• Maintain accurate records of activities and incidents; report to appropriate personnel.
• Communicate updates on resident behavior, incidents, and emerging issues to staff.
• Foster a positive, supportive environment and promote community and mutual respect.
• Ensure safe living environment; monitor, address, and report safety concerns promptly.
• Coordinate and facilitate resident activities to support well-being and community.
• Adhere to YMCA policies/procedures and applicable laws at all times.
• Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and agency-wide committees.
