Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our compassionate Intensive Care Unit. This on-site role offers a schedule Thurs-Sat + EO Wed, 7pm-7am with a pay range of $27.00-$51.00 per hour plus competitive shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Valid LVT with ICU experience.
• Experience with anesthesia induction and monitoring in a veterinary ICU.
• Familiarity with triage, vital signs and emergency care.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and record vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes.
• Initiate CPR for at-risk patients.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Place IV catheters and perform phlebotomy.
• Maintain feeding tubes and central lines.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Show empathy in addressing client concerns.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our compassionate Intensive Care Unit.

This position is eligible for up to a $20k sign-on bonus

Schedule

Thurs-Sat + EO Wed, 7pm - 7am

Pay

$27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive hourly shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Weekday Overnight (6pm-8am) & Weekend Days (8am-6pm) = $4.50 / hour
• Weekend Overnight (6pm-8am) = $8.00 / hour

As an ICU Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
