Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Boston, MA is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to support our ICU/Critical Care team. You will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform digital radiography and manage patient vitals with precision to ensure high-quality care.

We offer a competitive pay range of $27.00–$49.00 per hour plus shift differentials for nights and weekends, plus a robust benefits package including pet insurance, CE allowance and access to BluePearl University.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician in ICU/CCU preferred.
• Proficient in anesthesia monitoring and emergency care.
• Strong ability to interpret vitals and respond to changes promptly.

Responsibilities

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to support our ICU/Critical Care team.

Schedule: 3-12 hour shifts

Pay: $27.00 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We Also Offer Competitive Shift Differentials For Eligible Hours Worked For Nights And Weekends. Shift Differentials Are Based On a 4-hour Minimum. For Example

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As An ICU Veterinary Technician, You Will

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
