Job summary

TEKsystems seeks a Data Center Technician II for an overnight shift in San Jose, CA. The contract position requires independent work and comfort with mission-critical DC environments.

You will diagnose server hardware, perform break/fix, install firmware, configure servers, and support network teams during high-volume periods. Responsibilities include hardware replacement, cabling, and deployment prep, with eligibility for medical, dental, and vision benefits and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• Strong Data Center Operations experience with troubleshooting and break/fix.
• Ability to identify, isolate, and resolve server hardware issues independently.
• Experience with enterprise servers, network gear, and DC infrastructure.
• Knowledge of firmware updates and hardware replacement procedures.
• Familiarity with rack/stack, cabling standards, and physical deployment.
• Good attention to detail and ability to work overnight independently.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot server hardware issues and root causes.
• Perform break/fix activities on enterprise server systems.
• Order, replace, and return defective hardware via vendor warranties.
• Install firmware updates to keep systems current and secure.
• Configure IPs, credentials, and initial server settings.
• Support network admins by replacing cables and hardware components.
• Re-route cabling and connections; replace optics/transceivers.
• Install upgraded server components and hardware.
• Rack, stack, cable, and prepare equipment for deployment and remote config.
• Provide tech support to Data Center and Lab teams as needed.
• Assist with installation and projects; support Level 1 operations during busy periods.
