Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Data Center Technician II for the Reno, NV area to support overnight shift operations in a mission-critical data center. You will diagnose and repair server hardware, perform firmware updates, and assist with network cabling and deployment tasks.

The role requires independent work, strong problem-solving, and the ability to make technical decisions in high-pressure environments. Compensation aligns with market rates for night-shift data center technicians.

Qualifications

• Strong data center operations experience with a focus on troubleshooting and break/fix support.
• Ability to identify, isolate, and resolve server hardware issues independently.
• Experience with enterprise servers, network equipment, and data center infrastructure.
• Familiarity with firmware upgrades, hardware replacement procedures, and basic server configuration.
• Knowledge of rack and stack activities, cabling standards, and physical infra deployment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot a wide variety of server hardware issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Perform advanced break/fix activities on enterprise server systems.
• Order, replace, and return defective hardware components through vendor warranty processes.
• Install firmware updates to ensure systems remain current, secure, and optimized.
• Configure IP addresses, default credentials, and initial server settings.
• Support network admins by replacing damaged cables and hardware components, and re-routing cabling.
• Rack, stack, cable, and prepare servers and network equipment for deployment and remote configuration.
• Provide technical support to Data Center and Lab teams as needed.

Data Center Technician II (Overnight Shift)

This is a NIGHT SHIFT position. Candidates must be comfortable working overnight hours on a regular basis. The ideal candidate can work independently and is confident making technical decisions in a mission-critical data center environment.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose and troubleshoot a wide variety of server hardware issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Perform advanced break/fix activities on enterprise server systems.
• Order, replace, and return defective hardware components through vendor warranty processes.
• Install firmware updates to ensure systems remain current, secure, and optimized.
• Configure IP addresses, default credentials, and initial server settings.
• Support network administrators by:
  • Replacing damaged cables and hardware components.
  • Re-routing network cabling and connections.
  • Replacing optics and transceivers on servers and switches.
  • Installing upgraded server components and hardware.
• Rack, stack, cable, and prepare servers and network equipment for deployment and remote configuration.
• Provide technical support to Data Center and Lab teams as needed.
• Assist with installation, deployment, and infrastructure projects when required.
• Support Level 1 operations and team responsibilities during high-volume periods.

What We’re Looking For

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Reno, NV.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $33.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
