Job summary

Siemens Energy in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Crane Operator to move large generator rotors using overhead beam cranes, ensuring safe handling and precise placement throughout the production line.

You will inspect equipment, support rotor winding and balancing tasks, and participate in Lean improvements using 5S. A high school diploma with crane experience and the ability to obtain required internal certifications are required.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent with 1+ years of crane operating experience.
  • Working knowledge of common hand tools.
  • Must be able to obtain critical lift crane operation certification through Siemens Energy internal certification programs.
  • Must be able to obtain fork truck certification through Siemens Energy internal certification programs.
  • Silver Level or higher ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Must be able to pass hearing, vision, and pulmonary tests through Siemens Energy’s onsite medical team.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

A Crane Operator utilizes overhead beam cranes to move large generator rotors (15 to 300 tons) to various stands, rolls, and machines throughout the production process.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Safely rig, lift, transport, and load generator rotors onto fixed stands, roller stands, and machines, such as lathes and horizontal boring mills.
  • Regularly inspect lifting equipment
  • Assist with mechanical hand skills tasks in other work areas of the department such as rotor winding, assembly, and balance on an as‑needed basis
  • Engage in continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system.
What You Bring
  • High school degree or equivalent with 1+ years of crane operating experience
  • Working knowledge of common hand tools
  • Must be able to obtain critical lift crane operation certification through Siemens Energy internal certification programs
  • Must be able to obtain fork truck certification through Siemens Energy internal certification programs
  • Successful applicants must be able to obtain Silver Level or higher ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate

About The Team

Our Large Generator Rotor Operations team is responsible for manufacturing large electric generator rotors weighing up to 275 tons. We operate within the Large Generator team to supply new 150 – 1000 megawatt generators to power plants all over the world. In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.

Our Gas Services division offers Low‑emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
