This position focuses on expanding access to ELF’s programs—including tax preparation, summer/winter camp, afterschool support, recycling services, Know Your Rights education, community awareness, and other special projects—through culturally responsive outreach, education, and program coordination.
Outreach Specialists engage directly with community members through door-to-door canvassing, tabling, phone banking, and public events, often in dynamic environments, including high-traffic areas and outdoor settings in extreme weather. This role supports not only public engagement, but also the operational and administrative components that ensure effective program delivery. Ideal candidates are friendly, proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to empowering underserved communities across Fresno and surrounding counties.
By serving as a connector, advocate, and frontline presence in the community, the Outreach Specialist helps ensure that individuals and families are informed, welcomed, and supported in accessing resources that promote equity, dignity, and opportunity.
Work takes place in a combination of office, community, and event settings. While much of the work is performed indoors at a desk or table within a shared workspace, this position also requires regular participation in outdoor events and outreach activities, sometimes in extreme weather conditions such as the high temperatures common in and around the central valley.
Outreach Specialists must be comfortable working in a variety of environments, including indoor workshops, community centers, outdoor tabling events, canvassing neighborhoods, or setting up outreach materials in public spaces.
Noise conditions are typically moderate and may include background conversation, phone calls, and general community engagement.
The position involves both independent tasks and collaborative work with staff, volunteers, interns, or contractors.
Able to hear and speak clearly to communicate with staff, clients, and community members in person, over the phone, and in group settings.
Able to read and interpret written materials such as outreach flyers, schedules, program guidelines, computer screens, memos, and administrative documents.
Able to use hands and fingers to type, operate a phone or tablet, print, scan, and manage outreach or office materials.
Able to sit or stand at a desk, table, or outreach booth for extended periods.
Able to lift and carry materials such as outreach supplies, event signage, or program kits (typically up to 25 lbs).
Able to move around during community events, including walking, bending, setting up tables or tents, and standing outdoors for prolonged periods, sometimes in high heat or changing weather conditions.
