Job summary

Down East Community Hospital is seeking an Outpatient Scheduling Coordinator to manage scheduling for outpatient services across imaging and specialty departments. You will communicate with patients and staff to ensure accurate appointments, insurance pre-certification, and smooth patient flow.

The role requires strong knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with health insurance plans, and excellent organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with on the job training.
• Experience with various computer systems and typing.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
• Knowledgeable in various health insurance plans.
• Knowledgeable in daily operations of a business office and general office machines.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team setting, performing under pressure, and with periods of interruption.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedule outpatient services for Imaging, Cardio Pulmonary, Nuclear Medicine, and Dietary departments.
• Answer incoming phone calls and return messages.
• Prescreen for third party coverage and assess medical necessity where applicable.
• Obtain insurance coverage and pre-certification numbers when applicable.
• Educate patients on service-specific instructions with staff support.
• Notify for Advanced Beneficiary Notices when needed.
• Ensure completion of physician orders and supply daily orders to registration.
• Schedule inpatients when necessary and adhere to safety policies.
