Qualifications

• Education: Successful completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program resulting in an Associate's degree.
• Licensure: Current New York State Physical Therapist Assistant license or eligibility for licensure as required by New York State.
• Certification: Current CPR Certification.
• Training: Must complete yearly mandatory safety in-services and/or trainings as well as yearly HealthStream e-Learning courses.
• Experience: Prior outpatient or clinical experience preferred. New graduates may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provides skilled physical therapy treatment under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Assists with implementing individualized treatment plans addressing patient goals and functional needs.
• Instructs and assists patients with therapeutic exercises, gait, balance, and activities of daily living.
• Assists patients with assistive devices and orthotic devices.
• Administers modalities as directed (hot/cold packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation).
• Performs therapeutic activities and manual therapy within PTA scope of practice under supervision.
• Monitors and documents patient responses and progress; reports changes to supervising PT.
• Communicates with PT regarding progress and modifications to treatment.
• Participates in discharge planning and reinforces home exercise programs.
• Educates patients and caregivers on exercises, safety, mobility, and home program continuity.
• Documents patient care and charges in the EMR; maintains compliance with NYS requirements and facility policies.
