Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a HB Coding Analyst to join our team, serving as the coding and reimbursement expert in ICD-10-CM and HCPC coding. The role requires accuracy and collaboration across departments to optimize reimbursement.

Responsibilities include coding outpatient visits, evaluating E/M codes, and ensuring adherence to coding guidelines. A clinical background and coding certifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Certification required: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, COC or CPC.
• AHIMA or AAPC membership preferred.
• Three years of experience in acute healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Uses coding expertise to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for outpatient visit types.
• Assigns Evaluation and Management codes for physician encounters.
• Reviews medical records to code diagnoses, procedures, and E/M services.
• Collaborates with Patient Accounting, Registration, case managers, and other clinical areas to provide coding reimbursement expertise.
• Interprets health record documentation to report diagnoses and procedures.
• Follows ICD-10-CM Guidelines and Coding Clinic guidance for accuracy.
• Resolves NCCI, NCD/LCD or other outpatient edits as assigned.
• Meets established minimum coding productivity and quality standards.
