Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks an Outpatient Coder II to join our coding team in Illinois. The role focuses on ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding, HCPCS and CPT codes for complex outpatient encounters such as Observation stays and Same Day Surgery.

Strong knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology and disease processes supports accurate reimbursement. Required: 3–4 years of acute healthcare coding experience with RHIT, RHIA or CCS credentials.

Qualifications

• Credentialed by AHIMA; CE requirements to remain credentialed.
• 3-4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to outpatient visits.
• Review records to ensure accurate diagnoses and procedures.
• Query physicians for documentation clarification when needed.
• Support coding accuracy and productivity targets.
