Job summary

HBiz is seeking a Certified Medical Coder to perform accurate inpatient and outpatient coding to support timely billing and maximize revenue integrity. The role requires ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding in line with CMS guidelines and payer requirements, with remote work available.

You will collaborate with billing, clinical staff, and auditors to ensure documentation supports codes, participate in audits, and stay current with coding updates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active certification through AAPC or AHIMA and in good standing.
• 2–3 years of professional coding experience in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, MS-DRG assignment, APC methodology, NCCI edits, LCD/NCD rules, and payer-specific guidelines.
• Experience using EHR and coding platforms (Epic, Cerner, Meditech).

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters.
• Validate documentation to support codes and regulatory rules.
• Query providers for missing documentation per compliant processes.
• Ensure CMS, OIG, HIPAA and organizational standards for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist billing with claim edits, denials, and appeals.
• Monitor coding trends to identify root causes of denials and gaps.
• Participate in audits and quality reviews for compliance and readiness.
• Maintain knowledge of annual coding updates and payer policy changes.
• Protect patient PHI and follow secure remote work practices.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
