Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking an Outpatient Coding Educator/Auditor to lead education pathways for outpatient coders. You will collaborate with leadership to ensure high coding quality and oversee audits and training for staff across departments.

The role requires extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and coding guidelines, plus experience with EHR systems and mentoring. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for driving education programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HIM or related field or equivalent preferred.
• Five (5)+ years progressively complex coding and/or auditing work experience required.
• Certified AAPC Instructor credential can substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Experience with EHR systems and coding guidelines is essential.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities with internal and external educational partners to identify cases for audits and training.
• Conduct and coordinate quality assurance reviews and audits, providing educational resources as needed.
• Develop and provide individualized training based on audit findings to coders with suboptimal quality.
• Track audits and education activities and report outcomes to coding leadership.
• Develop coding procedures, guides, and updates to workflows as needed.
• Coordinate review and education of ICD-10-CM, PCS/CPT updates and regulatory changes.
• Onboard new coders and identify opportunities/resources to enhance staff skills.
• Lead training sessions and present high-level education on coding guidelines.
