Job summary

Yale New Haven Health seeks an Outpatient Coding Educator/Auditor to lead the development of a comprehensive education program for outpatient coders, guiding them from apprentice to advanced levels. This role conducts audits, provides corrective training, and supports quality improvement across coding workflows.

The educator will coordinate with leadership to ensure up-to-date ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and APC knowledge, while mentoring staff and maintaining education logs and competency records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HIM or related field required.
• AAPC Instructor credential preferred; CCC/CIRCC within first year desired.
• Extensive knowledge of CPT/ICD-10-CM/PCS and E/M classification systems; strong auditing experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops an educational pathway for outpatient coders from apprentice to advanced levels.
• Conducts quality assurance reviews and audits, with remediation plans for accuracy >95%.
• Creates training materials, policies and procedures for outpatient coding.
• Coordinates onboarding and ongoing education of coding staff and manages education logs.
• Leads training sessions and presentations, including PowerPoint and webinars.
