Job summary

Houston Methodist seeks an Outpatient Coder to ensure accurate diagnostic and procedure coding for outpatient, ER, therapy, and clinic encounters. Responsibilities include coding per ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT, querying physicians as needed, and ensuring compliant, timely entry into encoder and EHR systems.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in an AHIMA-accredited program or equivalent experience.
• One year of outpatient coding experience or completion of Coding Apprentice Program.
• Must have one of the AHIMA or AAPC coding certifications listed in the posting.
• Proficiency in English speaking, reading, and writing for clear communication and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes and APCs per guidelines.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures per approved processes.
• Ensure coding quality and timely entry into the EHR and encoder systems.
• Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and AHIMA standards and stay compliant with regulations.
